Nobuho Miya Birds

$125.00

Designed by Nobuho Miya (b. 1952), a master forger of traditional cast iron, these cast iron birds reveal a Scandinavian influence that came from when Miya lived in Finland. Each is hand cast in Miya’s Kamasada Ironworks studio, founded by his family in Iwate prefecture, Japan, and is presented on a wooden base. OUT OF #2 AND #3

Miya’s work has been exhibited worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY. The designs use original Nambu techniques and reflects tradition and skill accrued through experience. It takes at least 15 years to become a competent iron-maker and 40 years to achieve master craftsman status. The work of Nobuho Miya reflects both his ability as a craftsman and as an artist.
