Wolof women from four rural villages in Senegal, West Africa, weave these sizable baskets with a local grass called njodax together with recycled strips of plastic used in the production of prayer mats. Since many of the men have to seek work far from the village, weaving allows the women to stay at home while making a vital contribution to the household income.
Available in green and white, or yellow and white. As in most things that are handmade, the patterns may vary slightly.
