These deftly sculptured, cast iron birds by Nobuho Miya (b. 1952) reveal a Scandinavian influence from the time that the Japanese designer - and third generation ironsmith - lived in Finland. Each expresses an attitude and individuality that is all its own displayed in contrast on natural blocks of wood.
Hand cast by Miya's Kamasada Studio in Morioka City, a town in Japan's Iwate Prefecture that has been producing ironware since the mid-17th century. Known as Nambu-Tekki, the foundries in this area are famous for their outstanding quality.
