Circa 1940 large brooch in hand cut and chased sterling, handcrafted in Taxco by Hector Aguilar.  This brooch is pictured on page 111 of the book “Mexican Silver” by Penny Morrill and Carole Berk.  In excellent condition.

Considered as one finest masters of early Mexican sterling jewelry, Hector Aguilar began his incredible career as a silversmith by first apprenticing with William Spratling at Las Delicias in 1937 until he opened his own studio, Taller Borda in 1939.  All of Aguilar’s work is highly sought after by Mexican silver enthusiasts.
