Up until the late 19th century, coasters made of wool felt were used in taverns throughout Bavaria. The invention of inexpensive paper coasters marked the end of the felt variety. Nevertheless, Bavarians still call coasters of all kinds "bierfilzl".

In keeping with old traditions, these Bierfilzl coasters have been recreated in a luxuriously thick felt of natural merino wool from Germany.

Set of four, made in California by the LA design studio, Graf & Lantz. Available in charcoal, red, or pistachio.

Note: The oil content of the wool makes this felt stain and water resistant. If any spills occur, simply dab off moisture with a wet towel or rinse lightly with water.
