1978 porcelain owl, designed by Bertil Vallien. An uncommon piece, made in Sweden by Rorstrand. The figure was part of Vallien's animal series. In excellent condition.

Bertil Vallien was born in Sweden in 1938.  He studied ceramics under Stig Lindberg in Stockholm, and was awarded a Royal Foundation Grant in 1961. With the funds from the grant, Vallien moved to Los Angeles where he began designing ceramics for Hal Fromhold. He returned to Sweden in 1963 to work for Afors Glassworks. Although Vallien continued to work in ceramics throughout the 60s, including designing for Rorstrand and Gustavsberg, he began to focus on glass art, becoming one of Sweden’s most important glass artists.
